Dozer Training
A tracked crawler dozer with a front blade, used to push, spread and level material. Dozer training prepares operators for the NPORS dozer test and for safe blade work on real ground, and the category and machine size are confirmed with you before booking.
Accredited training route
- Scheme
- NPORS accredited operator scheme (CSCS-logo card)
- Category
- Crawler tractor / dozer category, confirmed for your machine before booking
- Duration
- Depends on experience and machine size; confirmed when you book
- Prerequisites
- Aged 18+; tell us each candidate's experience so the right route is booked
Outcome: NPORS registration for the dozer category tested, on an NPORS card carrying the CSCS logo
Where we train dozer operators in NE Scotland
Cluster: Earthworks, quarries, wind farm and forestry tracks, and agricultural ground work across Aberdeenshire
- Spreading and levelling fill and topsoil on housebuilding and civils earthworks
- Pushing and stockpiling material in quarries and on landfill and recycling sites
- Forming access tracks, platforms and haul roads on wind farm and forestry projects
- Clearing and grading ground for farm buildings, yards and drainage
Load-chart & stability considerations
A dozer is heavy and low, but it can still overturn. The risk rises when working across a slope, pushing over an edge or tip face, or travelling on ground that gives way under one track. Operators learn to work up and down slopes rather than across them where possible, to keep the blade low when travelling, and to treat edges, soft ground and buried voids as stability hazards. Wearing the seat belt is a core part of training, because the protective cab only works if the operator stays inside it.
A finding we train out of your team
"Across UK earthworks, people on foot near reversing dozers and operators not wearing seat belts are two of the most widely reported dozer safety concerns. Training covers both directly: exclusion zones and reversing discipline, and why the seat belt matters in a rollover."
Inspection points & common failure modes
- Track tension, rollers and sprockets worn by mixed rock and soft ground
- Blade and ripper hydraulic hoses and pins, checked before every shift
- ROPS and FOPS cab structure and seat belt condition, which protect the operator in a rollover
- Mirrors, cameras and reversing alarms, given the very large blind areas behind and beside a dozer

Training on your own dozer
Dozer work depends heavily on the ground, so training is best delivered on your own machine at your own site. Operators practise on the material, slopes and edges they will actually meet, and the NPORS dozer test is taken on that machine. If you have several operators or other plant to train, such as excavators or dumpers, they can be planned into the same visit.
Based in Aboyne, Aberdeenshire AB34 — we mobilise across Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire and North-East Scotland.
FAQ — Dozer
What does the NPORS dozer test involve?
NPORS assessment includes a theory element and a practical test on the dozer category concerned. The practical covers pre-use checks, blade control, pushing, spreading and grading, and safe travelling and parking.
How long is dozer training?
It depends on the operator's experience and the machine. A novice needs longer than an experienced operator who has never held a card. The length is confirmed when you book.
Do I need a ticket to drive a dozer?
Employers must make sure dozer operators are trained and competent, and most construction sites and quarries ask for a recognised card. NPORS training leads to a card carrying the CSCS logo.
Do you deliver CPCS dozer training?
No. Logan Plant Training delivers NPORS training leading to NPORS cards carrying the CSCS logo, not CPCS.
Can we use our own dozer?
Yes. Training is delivered on your own site and machine, so the operator is tested on the dozer they will use.
