Renewal
IOSH certificates don't formally expire, but a 3-year refresher is widely recommended good practice given how safety legislation and guidance evolves.
When IOSH is right
For anyone with general safety responsibility — supervising a team, managing a site, or simply needing structured hazard-awareness grounding — IOSH courses are a well-recognised, general-purpose fit.
When it's not the right fit
IOSH courses do not certify anyone to operate specific plant — an IOSH certificate is not a substitute for a forklift, telehandler, excavator or MEWP ticket, and confusing the two is a genuine and recurring audit gap we see.
