Who demands it
Employers and insurers who already run an RTITB-based fleet training record, or who have a historical relationship with RTITB paperwork — acceptance for forklift work is otherwise broad across NE Scotland warehousing, distribution and manufacturing sites.
How it's assessed
A theory element covering safe operating principles and legislation, plus a hands-on practical assessment against the HSE L117 syllabus, delivered by an RTITB-accredited instructor.
When RTITB is right
If your existing fleet records, insurer documentation or client contracts already reference RTITB, staying consistent with that scheme avoids unnecessary paperwork friction across your operator records.
When it's not the right fit
If you have no existing scheme preference, or you want one scheme covering forklifts alongside other plant categories (telehandlers, excavators, MEWPs), a broader scheme like NPORS may be more administratively convenient.
Renewal
Renewal is via a refresher course and reassessment, commonly on a 3-year cycle, or sooner following an incident, extended absence from the machine, or a change of equipment type.
