How to decide
- Identify the plant category and any attachment endorsements required for the task.
- Check whether the contract accepts an NPORS card bearing the CSCS logo.
- Establish which operator status and health-and-safety evidence the client expects.
- If a different scheme is named, ask the client to confirm its position rather than assuming equivalence.

When each option wins
NPORS (CSCS logo) wins when…
The NPORS route is appropriate when the site confirms acceptance and the planned category matches the equipment. Logan can deliver training at the customer’s premises, using the machines and attachments the team works with. That makes the booking discussion about real operating tasks, not about purchasing a generic card without considering its category.
CPCS wins when…
CPCS is relevant where a client specifically requires that separate scheme. A contract can impose a named-card requirement even when other clients accept NPORS. Logan cannot supply CPCS training or testing, so establish the requirement before booking and use an appropriate separate provider if the client will not accept the NPORS route.
Cost & time
Do not compare quotations on scheme names alone. Check the machine category, the operator’s experience, the assessment included and any qualification or card steps. Those details determine what the booking covers. Ask Logan for the NPORS training arrangement applicable to your equipment rather than assuming a comparison page supplies a price or a universal course length.
Compliance
PUWER 1998 requires adequate training for people using work equipment. It does not generally make one of these private schemes the statutory choice. Employer authorisation, machine familiarisation and site induction still matter whichever card the operator holds. A registration is evidence to check, not permission to operate unrelated equipment or disregard the site’s controls.
Our recommendation
For customers whose site accepts it, our offered route is NPORS training leading to NPORS cards carrying the CSCS logo. Confirm the category and client policy, then discuss training on your own equipment with Logan. Where the contract explicitly demands CPCS, resolve that restriction first: we do not present our NPORS delivery as CPCS training or claim to issue its cards.
