Plant Loader Securer Training
A plant loader securer is the person who drives plant onto a low loader, beavertail or trailer and secures it for transport. Plant loader securer training covers both halves of that job: loading and unloading the machine safely, and chaining it down so it cannot shift, roll or fall when the vehicle brakes, corners or climbs a hill.
Logan Plant Training delivers plant loader securer training through the NPORS route, leading to an NPORS card carrying the CSCS logo, on your own yard with your own trailers and machines. We work from our Aboyne base across Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire and North-East Scotland.
Why loading and securing plant matters
Loading plant onto a trailer is one of the riskiest short jobs on any site. The machine climbs ramps that are only just wider than its tracks or wheels, its centre of gravity changes as it tips over the ramp, and a slip at that point can overturn it. Once on the trailer, a machine that is not properly secured can move in transit and endanger the driver and other road users.
Plant loader securer training gives the person doing the job a clear, repeatable method, so that loading, securing and unloading are done the same safe way every time, whoever is on shift.
What the course covers
The course mixes theory with practical loading and securing on your own trailers. Candidates load, secure and unload the machines they normally move.
- Planning the move: machine weight, trailer capacity and route
- Checking ramps, deck, anchor points and ground before loading
- Driving plant up and down ramps safely, with a banksman where needed
- Positioning the machine for correct weight distribution and axle loads
- Selecting and using chains, binders, tensioners and webbing
- Securing attachments, booms, buckets and loose parts
- Pre-departure checks and re-checking restraints during the journey
- Unloading safely at the destination
Plant mover training and other cards
People often search for plant mover training when they mean this course. It does not replace the operator card for each machine: a person who drives an excavator on and off a trailer also needs to be trained on that excavator. Teams who load several machines can combine plant loader securer training with excavator, dumper or roller training on one visit.
Employers who move plant regularly also benefit from a written loading procedure for each common machine and trailer pairing, setting out where the machine sits, which anchor points are used and how many restraints are fitted. The course gives the people who load plant the knowledge to follow, and help write, that procedure.
Driving the transporting vehicle on public roads is a separate matter, covered by the driver's own licence and the vehicle's rules.
Training on your own yard
Every trailer has its own ramps, anchor points and quirks, and every machine sits on a trailer differently. Training on your own yard means operators practise on the exact combinations they move each week. Tell us which trailers and machines you use and how many people need training.
