Load-chart & stability considerations
Boom lifts have a genuinely dynamic stability envelope: as the boom extends and articulates outward, the safe working envelope narrows sharply, and wind loading becomes a real factor at height in a way it isn't for scissor lifts. We train operators to respect the machine's own envelope-limiting system rather than override it, and to treat wind-speed limits and outreach limits as equally important — a common cause of tip-overs is operators positioning at maximum outreach in wind conditions the machine wasn't rated for at that reach.

What's the difference between a scissor lift and boom lift ticket?
Scissor lifts (3a) only go straight up, while boom lifts (3b) reach up and outward — the outreach, wind-loading and envelope-management skills are different enough to need separate certification.
Can boom lifts be used near overhead lines?
Only with a specific risk assessment and safe clearance distance in line with HSE guidance on overhead line proximity — we cover this explicitly for vegetation-clearance and rail-corridor work.
Do you train on truck-mounted or self-propelled booms?
