Who demands it
Almost every UK construction principal contractor requires a valid CSCS card (which requires a current HS&E Test pass plus relevant qualification) for site access — this applies across Aberdeenshire construction sites just as it does nationally.
How it's assessed
The HS&E Test is a computer-based multiple-choice/scenario test covering general construction safety knowledge, sat at an approved test centre.
Renewal
The HS&E Test pass is valid for 2 years; if your CSCS card application or renewal falls outside that window, the test must be resat.
When CITB is right
If you or your operators need general construction site access via a CSCS card, the CITB HS&E Test is a mandatory first step — this is separate from, and additional to, any plant-specific operator ticket.
When it's not the right fit
The HS&E Test does not certify plant operation — passing it alone does not qualify anyone to run a forklift, telehandler, excavator or MEWP; a specific operator ticket (NPORS, CPCS etc.) is still required for that.
